U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) published a series of posts on its official X account between August 4 and August 5, 2026, addressing recent enforcement actions and expressing the agency’s mission.
On August 4, ICE posted: “Our nation and our people are worth fighting for.”
In a subsequent post dated August 5, ICE commented on local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The agency stated, “California officials refused to honor a detainer that ICE placed against Juan Manuel Saravia, a TWICE-CONVICTED BURGLAR. Instead of holding the Salvadoran criminal illegal alien for ICE, Santa Monica police released him back into the community. So, ICE LA officers targeted him”.
Later that day, ICE reported on another removal operation: “ICE deported DOMESTIC ABUSER Jose Hernandez-Contreras, a criminal illegal alien with numerous prior deportations and convictions. He’s served time for drugs, having false identification and domestic violence. ICE is swiftly REMOVING VIOLENT CRIMINALS like Hernandez-Contreras”.
The agency’s posts reflect ongoing tensions between federal immigration authorities and certain local jurisdictions in California regarding compliance with immigration detainers—a longstanding issue in U.S. immigration policy debates. Federal agencies such as ICE have frequently highlighted instances where state or municipal governments decline to honor requests to hold individuals suspected of violating immigration laws pending federal action.
