A Wilmington man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a prohibited person, according to an announcement on July 29.
The indictment alleges that Isiah Woodland, 30, possessed a Polymer 80 handgun and twelve rounds of ammunition in February 2026. Woodland is legally barred from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.
Woodland faces one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison; however, actual sentences for federal crimes are often less than the maximum allowed. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace made the announcement, along with Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Chief Wilfredo Campos of the Wilmington Police Department (WPD). The ATF and WPD investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin B. Smith.
This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative coordinated by U.S. Attorneys’ offices across all 94 federal districts to address violent crime through partnerships among law enforcement agencies at various levels.
