A federal grand jury has indicted Rangi Knight, 52, of Wilmington, Delaware, on charges of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, according to a July 30 announcement by U.S. Attorney Benjamin L. Wallace and Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul of the FBI Baltimore.
The indictment alleges that Knight stored approximately 183 grams of fentanyl packaged for distribution inside a storage unit he leased in Wilmington. Law enforcement officers recovered about 1,300 stamped glassine bags containing fentanyl, additional bulk fentanyl, and drug-trafficking paraphernalia such as digital scales and packaging materials from the storage unit. Court documents show that Knight was on federal supervised release at the time following a 2023 conviction for passport fraud.
Knight faces one count of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and up to forty years. The actual sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The FBI and Delaware State Police investigated the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware stated that related court documents can be found on its website or through PACER by searching Case No. 1:26-cr-117.
Officials noted that “the charges contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.”
