A Yatahey man pleaded guilty on July 22 to federal firearms offenses after assaulting and disfiguring a victim, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.
Court documents state that Fernando Brown, 35, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, assaulted Jane Doe on March 28 and March 29, 2025. The assault resulted in temporary but substantial disfigurement.
Brown pleaded guilty to assault resulting in substantial bodily injury. He faces up to five years in prison at sentencing.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, made the announcement regarding Brown’s plea.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with assistance from the Ramah-Navajo Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Jordan is prosecuting.
