Brownsville Road in Mammoth Cave National Park closed all day September 14 and 15 for road work

News Release: Mammoth Cave National Park will temporarily close Brownsville Road (KY-70E) from the Mammoth Cave Parkway to the Brownsville Entrance from 7 am Wednesday, September 14 to 7 am Friday, September 16. The 48-hour closure is required for crews to complete fog sealing on the roadway.

Twentieth Anniversary Chumash Tomol Canoe Crossing to Channel Islands National Park

News Release: For the 20th time in modern history, members of the Chumash Indian community will paddle across the Santa Barbara Channel on a 24-mile journey to Santa Cruz Island in a traditional Chumash tomol plank canoe called Muptami, or “Deep Memories." Plane Crash at Jakes Bar Airstrip in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve

News Release: Copper Center, AK- At approximately 8:04 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2022, the National Park Service (NPS) was notified of a plane crash at the Jakes Bar airstrip in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve involving a Cessna 180. The pilot, Michael Britsch, from Anchorage, Alaska misjudged the wind direction while attempting to land. Due to a gusting tail wind, he was unable to stop, and the aircraft tire struck a large rock and flipped over.

Additional Trail and Camp Closures for Chilliwack Complex

News Release: Four lightning-caused fires remain active across North Cascades National Park Service Complex. The fires are in remote areas of the Stephen Mather Wilderness. Three fires (North Fork, Little Chill, and Copper Lake) are in proximity to the Copper Loop Trail system and one (Brush Creek Fire) is near the Brush Creek Trail in the Whatcom Pass area. The Chilliwack Complex is estimated at 3,700 acres.

Firewood Permits Available for Dorst Woodlot in Sequoia National Park

News Release: SEQUOIA AND KINGS CANYON NATIONAL PARKS, Calif. September 6, 2022 - Surplus wood is currently available to the public by permit in Sequoia National Park. Firewood permits are free, but you must obtain your permit before wood can be removed. Permit holders may take up to six cords per family per year. Firewood is available on a first-come first-served basis until the supply is gone.
