NPS Celebrates Maggie L. Walker's July 15 Birthday

News Release: Cape Hatteras National Seashore recently hired lifeguards to fill vacant positions in Buxton ensuring that all three designated National Park Service beaches have lifeguards for the remainder of the 2007 summer season. Lifeguards are now on duty from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., seven days a week through Labor Day on Ocracoke Island, Buxton and Coquina Beach in Nags Head.

Roadwork on Schoodic Peninsula

News Release: On July 9, Acadia National Park will begin work to replace approximately 4,500 linear feet of water line on the Schoodic Peninsula, Town of Winter Harbor, Maine. The water line was installed in the 1960s and runs from the well on the slopes of Schoodic Head to the former navy base. Deterioration of the existing line has led to numerous breakages and leaks, making it necessary to completely replace it.


NPS and NCBBA Tackle Beach Litter

News Release: In cooperation with the National Park Service (NPS) the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association (NCBBA), recently sponsored "Operation Beach Respect" on Cape Hatteras National Seashore beaches. The event occurred on Saturday, June 23 when NCBBA members manned many park beach access ramps and distributed information and free trash bags for beach users. Park staff and Youth Conservation Corp (YCC) students pitched in to help.

2007 Peregrine Falcon Release

News Release: A year ago, the National Park Service (NPS) at New River Gorge National River began hosting a long-term restoration project for the peregrine falcon and 15 birds were successfully raised from nestlings and released. "This year, a total of 24 falcons have been released, which is the largest number ever recorded for a restoration site - anywhere in North America," exclaimed Matt Varner, NPS Wildlife Biologist.
