Reminder for Closure Areas in Rocky Mountain National Park Designated for 2009 Elk Rut

News Release: On Sept. 1, park officials will put closures in place for travel on foot or horse off established roadways or designated trails from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. These closures last through October 31 and are effective in Horseshoe Park, Upper Beaver Meadows, Moraine Park, Harbison Meadow and Holzwarth Meadow in Rocky Mountain National Park. Fishing in the Fall River, Thompson River or Colorado River within the posted areas and during the closure period is prohibited.


NPS Agreement With Land Owners

Significant Progress Made on Big Meadow Fire

News Release: UPDATE (8/31/2009 at 4 pm): Due to poor visibility from smoke from the Big Meadow Fire, the west end of Tioga Road has been closed to through traffic from White Wolf to Crane Flat Gas Station. There is no projected opening date of this portion of the Tioga Road at this point. Tuolumne Meadows to White Wolf is still accessible from the east end of the park via Highway 395.

News Release: The Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park will have restricted access, between Crane Flat and White Wolf, beginning Monday, Aug. 31, continuing until fire operations along the road are complete. This segment of the road will have controlled access with a pilot car during daylight hours, and be closed completely each night. Motorists should expect delays, which could begin as early as Monday morning.


North Cascades Wildfire Update August 30

News Release: Overview: Thirteen fires ranging in size from a single tree to 400 acres have been burning in the North Cascades National Park Complex since late June. All were started by lightning. The total acreage for all fires combined is over 700 acres. Five of these fires are being managed with suppression tactics to protect the public, and infrastructure in the area. The other eight fires are being managed for resource benefits.


Suppression Efforts Continue for Big Meadow Fire

News Release: The Big Meadow Fire in Yosemite National Park and Stanislaus National Forest grew to 3,506 acres today. The Big Meadow Fire was set by Yosemite National Park Fire Crews on Aug. 26, 2009 as a prescribed burn and shortly thereafter, the fire grew out of the prescription lines.


News Release: SEARCHLIGHT, Nev - The National Park Service recovered the bodies of two men, brothers ages 33 and 29, from Six Mile Cove on Lake Mohave. The Clark County Coroner has determined that both men died as a result of drowning.


News Release: There is currently a 2.5 mile section of the Grand Ditch Road which is temporarily closed. This section of the road is from the Little Yellowstone Trailhead to the Thunder Pass Trailhead. This section of the road will be closed to public travel through Oct. 15, 2009.


BOATING ACCIDENT CLAIMS 22-YEAR-OLD CALIF. WOMAN

News Release: BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. - A 22-year-old Chino Hills, Calif. woman died this evening after being struck by a boat propeller in Gasoline Alley on Lake Mohave. She was brought to the Princess Cove launch ramp where medical responders were waiting. The woman was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m.
