Wilbur Wright's 143rd Birthday Celebration - A Family Fun Day

News Release: Friday, April 16, 2010 will be a Family Fun Day at Wright Brothers National Memorial from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as the National Park Service celebrates Wilbur Wright’s 143rd birthday. Entrance fees will be waived for this special event. Wilbur Wright was born near Millville, Indiana on April 16, 1867. He and his younger brother Orville were the first to fly on that historic morning of Dec. 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.


Shackleford-Ocracoke Cross Filly Born

News Release: Harkers Island, NC -- Cape Lookout National Seashore Superintendent Russel J. Wilson announced that an adopted Shackleford stallion, Wenzel, has sired a new addition to the Ocracoke/Cape Hatteras National Seashore herd, a filly named Paloma. Paloma’s dam, Spirit, is a full-blooded Ocracoke mare. The Shackleford-Ocracoke cross provides valuable genetic diversity to the small Ocracoke herd.
