U.S. Department of Transportation Proposes Disclosure of Customer-Specific Airline Baggage Fee Information Along with the Airfare

News Release: WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is proposing to require airlines and ticket agents to disclose to consumers the fees for a first checked bag, a second checked bag, and a carry-on bag when providing airfare information. Those services had historically been included in the airfare but many airlines now charge a separate fee for transporting bags.


Flight Cancellations, Mishandled Baggage Rate at All-Time Low

News Release: WASHINGTON – The reporting carriers canceled 0.29 percent of their scheduled domestic flights in November 2016, the lowest for any of the 263 months with comparable records beginning in January 1995, and below the previous low of 0.33 percent in September 2016, according to the Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) released today. The reporting carriers canceled 1.0 percent of their flights in both November 2015 and October 2016.
