The U.S. Department of Homeland Security released a statement on Mar. 31 regarding an incident where an anti-ICE agitator attempted to doxx a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement law enforcement officer in North Carolina.

The issue comes as ICE officers are reportedly facing a significant rise in threats and assaults, raising concerns about their safety while performing their duties.

According to the statement, on March 23, ICE received information that a postcard had been sent to neighbors of an ICE officer. The postcard read “Beware! Your neighbor is an ICE agent” and included a photo of the officer’s face, which authorities say was intended as an act of doxxing.

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said, “Our ICE law enforcement officers are now facing an 8,000% increase in death threats against them and a more than 1,300% increase in assaults against them while they risk their lives every single day to remove murderers, pedophiles, rapists, terrorists, and gang members from American neighborhoods.” Bis also said comparisons between ICE and organizations such as the Nazi Gestapo or slave patrols have real-world consequences for officers. “The men and women of ICE are fathers and mothers, sons and daughters. They get up every morning to try and make our communities safer. Like everyone else, they just want to go home to their families at night. The violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop.”

Members of the public who wish to report incidents involving doxing or harassment against ICE officers can call 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or complete the agency’s online tip form.

The department’s response highlights ongoing concerns about increasing hostility toward federal law enforcement personnel.
