This is the highest wildfire frequency year since 2012 when 2,148 wildfires burned 34,434 acres.Overall, wildfires were larger in 2017 with an average size of 17.6 acres compared to a 10-year average of 15.5 acres. The highest wildfire frequency month was November when 316 wildfires burned 5,858 acres.

Kim, the Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that there is insufficient evidence to pursue federal criminal charges in connection with the fatal shooting of Kenneth Chamberlain. Mr. Chamberlain was killed during an encounter with police officers from the White Plains Police Department (“WPPD") on Nov. 19, 2011. Mr. Chamberlain was 68 years old at the time.
