Baltimore County Tax Preparer Sentenced to 7 Years in Federal Prison for Filing False Tax Returns and for Identity Theft

News Release: Baltimore, Maryland - U.S. District Judge George L. Russell, III sentenced Dawn Chapelle Cottman, age 45, of Owings Mills, Maryland today to seven years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for fourteen counts of filing false tax returns, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Cottman owned a tax preparation business called 40 AM Tax Service, which she operated from her residence in Owings Mills. A federal jury convicted Cottman on May 22, 2018.
