Injuries From Lightning Strike Near Lake Haiyaha In Rocky Mountain National Park

News Release: This afternoon, Saturday, Aug. 17, a 31-year-old man from Thornton, Colorado, suffered numerous serious injuries as a result of a lighting strike. It’s unknown whether he was directly struck by lightning. He was hiking below tree line, between Dream Lake and Lake Haiyaha, when the lightning strike occurred. Other hikers found him injured along the trail and called park rangers.

Denali Park Road Remains Closed at Mile 53 Due to Multiple Mudslides

News Release: The Denali Park Road remains closed to all traffic at mile 53, the Toklat River Rest Area, due to unsafe conditions at multiple locations in the areas west of there. Numerous mudslides between mile markers 53 and 69 of the Park Road have created hazardous conditions, and the road remains impassable in those spots. Road crews have been working overnight to monitor conditions and clear debris from the road, but the extent of the damage is considerable.
