Park Begins Closing Roads due to High Wind Warning

News Release: Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials have started closing several roads across the park in preparation for expected high winds today, Wednesday, March 30. The National Weather Service updated the High Wind Warning for the mountains to be in effect at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30 through 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 31. Officials anticipate sustained winds between 40 to 50 mph with gusts up to 90 mph in the mountains.


Visitor Fatality on Hot Springs Canyon Trail

News Release: BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK, TEXAS - On Monday, March 28 at approximately 4:20 PM, Big Bend National Park’s Communications Center received a call requesting emergency assistance on the Hot Springs Canyon Trail. Rangers responding to the scene found a 53-year-old female hiker in medical distress. They immediately called for further support and began CPR. An AED was applied, and CPR was continued for over an hour, but all attempts to revive the patient were unsuccessful.
