'Really frustrating': Bots could be to blame for snagging available National Park Service campsites

Traditionally, places like the National Park Service will set aside a time slot for people to reserve a campsite online, but more and more prospective campers are running into the same issue and finding that all the sites are booked up.

Bots are likely to blame for this reoccurring and agitating problem of snagging all the slots and selling them for a profit, sadly it's not just happening in the United States, but in Canada as well.

"Been camping at the same park for over 30 years [and I] store my trailer in the maintenance yard. Just can't get a campsite at the 7 a.m. lottery draw," Twitter user wyner21 wrote in a reply to Ontario Parks. "I'm not computer savvy. When you mention scalpers and their bots, how does that affect the reservation system?"

According to RV Travel, some campsites are gone within seconds of being posted.

KQED pointed to a story in which one couple was trying to get a reservation at a state park they have been visiting since 1984, registration window opened at 8:00 and they were booked by 8:01.

The same KQED article points to the fact that these scrapping bots are legal and are used in all sorts of different applications.
