U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector carried out several enforcement actions this week, disrupting human and narcotic smuggling attempts and providing emergency medical assistance.
Agents from the Rio Grande City Station apprehended a suspected smuggler transporting three people. McAllen Station agents arrested two alleged smugglers and five individuals who entered the country illegally. Weslaco Station agents also intervened in a separate human smuggling case involving four people.
In addition to these arrests, Kingsville Station agents seized over 72 pounds of cocaine. Another individual was arrested by Rio Grande City Station agents for allegedly trying to bring 116 pounds of marijuana into the United States. Brownsville station agents found about 98 pounds of marijuana abandoned near the Rio Grande. The combined street value of these narcotics is estimated at more than $3.4 million.
A Border Patrol agent trained as an emergency medical technician responded to a vehicle accident at Fort Brown Station, providing critical care to a 4-year-old girl with serious injuries. She was transported to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston for ongoing treatment.
"These actions demonstrate the grit and commitment of our Border Patrol agents who conduct their duties with the utmost professionalism and dedication to border security," said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “I am extremely proud of their actions every day.”
