Committee on Oversight and Government: Held a hearing on the Role of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in the Financial Crisis. Testimony was heard from the following CEOs of Freddie Mac: Richard Syron, 2003-2008; and Leland C. Brendsel, 1987-2003; the following CEOs of Fannie Mae: Daniel H. Mudd, 2005-2008; and Franklin Raines, 1999-2004; Edward Pinto, former Chief Credit Officer, Fannie Mae, 1987-1989; Arnold King, former member, Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System, 1980-1986; and public witnesses.

The Committee approved the Committee Report regarding President Bush's assertion of executive privilege in response to the Committee subpoena to Attorney General Michael Mukasey.

AUTO BAILOUT PROPOSAL--ENERGY INDEPENDENCE IMPLICATIONS

Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming: Held a hearing entitled ``The Energy Independence Implications of the Auto Bailout Proposal.'' Testimony was heard from Joan Claybrook, former Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Department of Transportation; and public witnesses.

WAIVING A REQUIREMENT OF CLAUSE 6(a) OF RULE XIII WITH RESPECT TO CONSIDERATION OF CERTAIN RESOLUTIONS REPORTED FROM THE COMMITTEE ON RULES

Committee on Rules: Granted, by voice vote, a rule waiving clause 6(a) of rule XIII (requiring a two-thirds vote to consider a rule on the same day it is reported from the Rules Committee) against certain resolutions reported from the Rules Committee. The rule applies the waiver to any resolution reported through the legislative day of December 13, 2008 relating to consideration or disposition of a measure to authorize financial assistance to eligible automobile manufacturers, and for other purposes. The resolution tables House resolutions 1516 and 1526.
