Committee on Appropriations: On March 18, the Subcommittee on the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies held a hearing on Quality Teachers, Principals and High Schools. Testimony was heard from the following officials of the Department of Education: Raymond Simon, Assistant Secretary, Elementary and Secondary Education; and Susan Sclafani, Assistant Secretary, Vocational and Adult Education.

DEPARTMENTS OF TRANSPORTATION, TREASURY, AND HUD, THE JUDICIARY, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, AND INDEPENDENT AGENCIES APPROPRIATIONS

Committee on Appropriations: On March 18, the Subcommittee on the Departments of Transportation, Treasury, and Housing and Urban Development, the Judiciary, District of Columbia and Independent Agencies held a hearing on the Secretary of Transportation. Testimony was heard from Norman Y. Mineta, Secretary of Transportation.

DOE NUCLEAR FACILITIES--SECURITY INITIATIVES

Committee on Energy and Commerce: On March 18, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a hearing entitled ``A Review of Security Initiatives at DOE Nuclear Facilities.'' Testimony was heard from the officials of the Department of Energy: Linton Brooks, Administrator, National Nuclear Security Administration; Glenn S. Podonsky, Director, Office of Security and Safety Performance Assurance; and Peter Nanos, Director, Los Alamos National Laboratory; and a public witness.
