Testimony was heard from John Koskinen, Chairman, President's Council on the Year 2000 Conversion; Joel Willemssen, Director, Accounting and Information Management Division, GAO; and Lawrence K. Gershwin, National Intelligence Officer for Science and Technology, National Intelligence Council.
HUMAN RIGHTS IN CHINA
Committee on International Relations: Held a hearing on Human Rights in China. Testimony was heard from the following officials of the Department of State: Harold Hongju Koh, Assistant Secretary, Democracy, Human Rights and Labor; Susan L. Shirk, Deputy Assistant Secretary, East Asian and Pacific Affairs; Louisa Coan, Senior Program Officer for Asia, National Endowment for Democracy; and public witnesses.
OUTLOOK--U.S. ECONOMY IN 1999
Committee on Ways and Means: Held a hearing on the Outlook for the State of the U.S. Economy in 1999. Testimony was heard from Alan Greenspan, Chairman, Board of Governors, Federal Reserve System.
