Congressional Record publishes “PERSONAL EXPLANATION” on July 3, 2018

Volume 164, No. 111 covering the 2nd Session of the 115th Congress (2017 - 2018) was published by the Congressional Record.

The Congressional Record is a unique source of public documentation. It started in 1873, documenting nearly all the major and minor policies being discussed and debated.

“PERSONAL EXPLANATION” mentioning the U.S. Dept. of Justice was published in the Extensions of Remarks section on pages E966 on July 3, 2018.

The Department is one of the oldest in the US, focused primarily on law enforcement and the federal prison system. Downsizing the Federal Government, a project aimed at lowering taxes and boosting federal efficiency, detailed wasteful expenses such as $16 muffins at conferences and board meetings.

PERSONAL EXPLANATION

______

HON. DIANE BLACK

of tennessee

in the house of representatives

Tuesday, July 3, 2018

Mrs. BLACK. Mr. Speaker, I am not recorded for roll call votes on Thursday, June 29, 2018 because I was unavoidably detained. Had I been present, I would have voted Aye on final passage for H. Res. 970, a resolution to compel the Department of Justice to comply with the request of the House investigators and turn over the remaining documents regarding the FBI's investigation of Russian influence over the 2016 election. The accusations of FBI abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act have serious consequences for our Fourth Amendment and the American people deserve nothing less than complete transparency.
