______

HON. ROBERT J. WITTMAN

in the house of representatives

Thursday, September 20, 2018

Mr. WITTMAN. Mr. Speaker, I rise today in recognition of Mrs. Virginia Ann Sanders, a remarkable volunteer, public servant, and outspoken advocate of those less fortunate both in our community and around the world.

For her incredible service to the causes to which she has given so much of herself, Ann has been awarded title of Kentucky Colonel in 2001, the Silver and Gold President's Volunteer Service Awards in 2012 and 2011, respectively, and the President's Lifetime Achievement Volunteer Service Award in 2017, far exceeding the 4,000-hour requirement of service hours. A small number of the organizations and individuals she has donated her crafting or clowning skills, her time, or her resources to are: Clowns of America International; Kolonial Klowns of Williamsburg, Alley No. 357; Rainy Day Kids, LLC.; the Humane Society; the Salvation Army; Sgt. Santa, Inc.; Camp Sunlight for children with Xeroderma Pigmentosum; Operation Christmas Child; the Special Olympics at the University of Richmond; American Red Cross; the children of Haiti; Samaritan's Purse; numerous fundraiser walks; Stonehouse Preschool; and Menokin Baptist, Church of the Good Shepherd, Jamieson Memorial United Methodist, and Buffalo Baptist Church. Ann is also a breast cancer survivor. With a career spanning 30 years, Ann has also worked for the Department of Defense at Dahlgren and Fort Lee as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service in Richmond.

Mr. Speaker, I ask you to join me in recognizing the work of Ann Sanders; words cannot capture the amount of time, energy, and emotion Ann has devoted to volunteer efforts throughout her life as well as in service to our country throughout her career. The greatest way to express the overwhelming gratitude of our community is simply, ``thank you.''
