WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $725,075 grant increment to help Illinois officials with continued cleanup and recovery following the state's June 2008 severe storms and flooding.
"Last June, a series of severe storms resulted in widespread flooding in Illinois," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "This grant increment will continue to fund temporary jobs for dislocated workers in the affected area." The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will receive the funding to support cleanup and recovery in the counties of Madison, Pike and St. Clair, Ill. Additionally, Illinois officials will provide training to 16 National Emergency Grant participants who have completed temporary jobs and now seek permanent employment.
Illinois officials received a $3.5 million National Emergency Grant on June 27, 2008, to create approximately 200 temporary jobs for eligible dislocated workers to assist in cleanup and recovery efforts related to the severe storms and flooding. Of that funding announced, $2 million was released initially. This second funding increment brings the total award to $2,725,075.
