Call Center to Assist Business Community’s Hurricane Katrina Relief and Recovery Efforts WASHINGTON—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today announced a Department of Commerce Hurricane Relief Call Center (1-888-4USADOC or 1-888-487-2362) that will help private sector contributions reach those who are in need following Hurricane Katrina.
“The business community stepped in to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and their generosity has been tremendous,” Gutierrez said. “The Department of Commerce Hurricane Relief Call Center will help match up private sector contributions with those who need those contributions on the ground.” The Department of Commerce Call Center has been established in conjunction with the White House, Department of Homeland Security and other agencies involved in the relief and rebuilding effort.
Phone lines will be staffed by caseworkers from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week. The caseworkers will help steer each contribution made by the businesses community through the federal government until it successfully reaches its destination. The call center will have a 60-line capacity and be able to handle 120 calls at any given time.
