Today’s retail sales report is another clear indication that our economy is on the right track. It also provides another reason to be confident this year’s holiday shopping season will be strong. Solid economic fundamentals like strong third quarter GDP, 4.5 million new jobs since May 2003, and an increase in personal income gives us every reason to believe that this holiday season should be a good one for retailers. Furthermore, most Americans report that they have not yet completed their holiday shopping, which suggests this season is far from over.
To keep this momentum going, we must continue to stay the President’s course of lower taxes and restrained spending so that working families can decide how best to spend their hard earned money.
