Gutierrez Statement on Employment Report

Gutierrez Statement on Employment Report

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Commerce on Jan. 6, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

Today's positive employment report is a home run for the American economy and a very encouraging sign that Americans are finding jobs. This is more evidence that our economy is very healthy and resilient.

Our economy has made much progress under President Bush's leadership, and this administration will continue to work aggressively to move our economy forward. We will also work with Congress to make the tax cuts permanent and continue to promote an ownership society that empowers Americans to have a greater stake in their future.

The President's agenda for a vibrant economy is very clear: lower taxes will encourage businesses to hire new employees, invest in new equipment and help working families keep more of their hard earned money.

The key to maintaining our economic leadership at home and abroad is to make the President's tax cuts permanent so that Americans have more certainty to plan for today and the future.
