SEATTLE—The following is a statement of Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez on the announcement of Canadian industry support for the U.S.-Canadian Softwood Lumber Agreement: “I am pleased that the Canadian industry has expressed its support for the settlement agreement. This negotiated accord will resolve the long-standing softwood lumber dispute and is a win-win for workers, industry, consumers and communities in both Canada and the United States. The settlement will allow trade to exist in a fair environment on both sides of the border. This agreement also further demonstrates the strength of the relationship between the United States and Canada and that, if we have a cooperative spirit, we can resolve our differences.”
