WASHINGTON—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today released the following statement on the real gross domestic product (GDP) report which showed that the American economy increased at an annual rate of 2.9 percent in the second quarter of 2006, an upward revision of 0.4 percent: “The President’s strong track record on the economy has helped many more families live the American dream.
“Today’s GDP report highlights how the administration’s job creation policies have allowed the U.S. to remain the fastest growing economy in the industrialized world over the past twelve months even with high energy prices.
“With an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent and higher real disposable income, the President’s economic policies have clearly strengthened America’s world-class economy.
“President Bush is committed to a prosperity agenda that will create jobs, help America thrive and compete in a changing world, and give entrepreneurs the tools to succeed.”
