BOGOTA, COLOMBIA—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today released the following statement on the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize: “The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shares a Nobel Peace Prize today with former Vice President Gore, has brought together hundreds of experts from around the world to develop a scientific assessment of the causes and potential effects of climate change. Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration played a key role in producing the world class research that contributed to the IPCC’s findings. America’s thanks and recognition should go to NOAA scientist Dr. Susan Solomon, who was co-chair of the IPCC’s Working Group 1, and the many others at NOAA who provided expertise and support to the IPCC. Congratulations on NOAA’s excellent work!” Gutierrez is leading his second congressional delegation to Colombia in a month as part of the Administration’s effort to build support for the trade agreement between the U.S. and Colombia.
