WASHINGTON—Today Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez issued the following statement applauding the U.S. Senate passage of the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement.
“I commend Chairman Baucus, Senator Grassley and the U.S. Senate for its overwhelming support of the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement. With this final vote, Congress will boost both nations’ economies and remove barriers for U.S. exports to that market.
“Bipartisan cooperation to pass this agreement in both the House and Senate sets a positive tone for our common agenda to give American businesses, workers and farmers the tools needed to compete and win globally as well as promote peace and prosperity with U.S. allies. I look forward to building on this momentum by working closely with Congress to pass pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and Korea in the coming months.”
