U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke today announced $30 million in Economic Development Administration (EDA) grants in the State of Iowa to assist economic development efforts and help in the ongoing recovery after the 2008 flood. Locke made the announcement at the University of Iowa's P. Sue Beckwith, M.D., Boathouse. He was joined by Iowa Governor Chet Culver, Congressman Dave Loebsack and Iowa City Mayor Matt Hayek.
“President Obama is committed to investing in our economy to spur sustainable, long-term growth,” Locke said. “As the rebuilding efforts continue, these grants will help Iowa communities rebuild and come back better than ever.” The investments announced today include: This year, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) marks 45 years of public service, with a mission of leading the federal economic development agenda by promoting competitiveness and preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy. EDA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce that partners with distressed communities throughout the United States to foster job creation, collaboration and innovation.
