The Federal Reserve Board on Tuesday announced its approval of the application and notice by Chuo Mitsui Trust Holdings, Inc., Tokyo, to become a bank holding company by acquiring The Sumitomo Trust & Banking Co., Ltd. ("STB"), Osaka, both of Japan, thereby acquiring indirectly STB's wholly owned subsidiary bank Sumitomo Trust and Banking Co. (USA), Hoboken, New Jersey, and thereafter engage in certain nonbanking activities.
