FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2007 WWW.USDOJ.GOV TAX (202) 514-2007 TDD (202) 514-1888 WASHINGTON Robert L. Mosher was found guilty of contempt of court by a federal jury in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Sept. 21, 2007 for violating injunctions that barred him from preparing tax returns, the Justice Department announced.
The injunction orders, entered Oct. 27, 2003 and Mar. 15, 2004, each prohibit Mosher from giving tax advice and acting as an income tax return preparer. Evidence offered in support of the Governments request for an injunction established that Mr. Mosher prepared fraudulent income tax returns that illegally understated his customers federal income tax liabilities. Mosher was also convicted of criminal contempt in connection with a grand jury subpoena.
Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2008. This is Mr. Moshers second conviction for violating the injunction. In February 2006, he pleaded guilty to preparing tax returns in violation of the injunction, and was sentenced to 105 days in prison.
The injunction orders violated by Mosher were obtained by the Department of Justices Tax Division. Information about them can be found at http://www.usdoj.gov/tax/txdv04165.htm. Information about Moshers prior conviction can be found at http://www.usdoj.gov/tax/txdv06084.htm. 07-754
