Two individuals with records of sex offenses against children recently were arrested at the Rio Grande City Border Patrol station after agents responded to calls of illegal entry attempts near the Texas city.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the two were taken into custody for processing after criminal record checks indicated past offenses for the two migrants.
“Rio Grande City Border Patrol station agents responded to a group of migrants making an illegal entry into the United States near Rio Grande City, Texas,” CBP said in the news release. "The migrants were taken into custody for processing."
The two migrants were of Guatemalan and Mexican origin, the release said.
One of the migrants had previously been deported from the United States earlier this year after being sentenced to six years in prison for sexual assault involving a minor, the release said.
A report by Fox News states there have been more than 1.7 million migrant encounters at the southern border this year, and 10,763 of those encounters involved individuals with a criminal background.
