For Immediate Release Office of the Press Secretary Contact: 202-282-8010 AMMAN, Jordan—Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today concluded her visit to Jordan where she met with Prince El Hassan bin Talal and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Minister of Transport Hashem Al Masaeed to promote collaboration and information sharing on aviation security between the Transportation Security Administration and the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission. Secretary Napolitano also visited the King Hussein Mosque, which was built in honor of the late King Hussein of Jordan.
“International security and homeland security are inextricably linked. Today, threats transcend national borders and affect the security and economic prosperity of the entire international community,” said Secretary Napolitano. “Today’s agreement underscores our shared commitment to building a stronger partnership between our two nations.” While in Amman, Secretary Napolitano also met with King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh, Minister of Interior Ghaleb Al Zubi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces Lt. General Mashal Al Zaben and Director of General Intelligence Directorate Major General Faisal Shobaki to discuss cooperation between the two nations on issues such as law enforcement, aviation security and global supply chain security.
Yesterday, Secretary Napolitano delivered remarks on women and next generation leadership in security at the Columbia University Middle East Research Center.
