Statement by Secretary Johnson on TSA and Thanksgiving Week

The following press release was published by the US Department of Homeland Security on Nov. 30, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

For Immediate Release Office of the Press Secretary Contact: 202-282-8010 I commend our TSA employees for their hard work over the busy Thanksgiving week, Monday, November 21 through Monday, November 28. Thanksgiving week is the busiest air travel week of the entire year. This past Sunday is typically the busiest travel day of the entire year. In all last week, 16.5 million travelers passed through U.S. airport security, 4.9% more than last year.

Despite the large volume of holiday travelers, our TSOs kept things on track. In fact, 99% of air travelers last week waited in security lines for less than 30 minutes, and 95% waited less than 15 minutes. In TSA Pre✓® lanes, 97% passengers waited less than 5 minutes.

This Holiday season, please thank the men and women of TSA who work hard to keep YOU safe during air travel. Transportation,Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
