ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – On Monday, Aug. 31, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will deliver remarks at the Conference on Global Leadership in the Arctic: Cooperation, Innovation, Engagement and Resilience (GLACIER).
Secretary Jewell will discuss U.S actions to enhance climate resilience and adaptation planning in Arctic communities most impacted by climate change.
The GLACIER conference, hosted by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, brings together Foreign Ministers of Arctic nations and key non-Arctic states with scientists, policy-makers, and stakeholders from around the world to discuss the most urgent issues facing the Arctic today, broaden global awareness of the impacts of Arctic climate change, and highlight innovative ways to address these challenges.
As part of their travel to Alaska, Secretary Jewell and Assistant Secretary Indian Affairs Kevin Washburn will join a GLACIER roundtable discussion and the ‘Rising Together’ reception, hosted by more than a dozen diverse community organizations, including the Alaska Federation of Natives.
