The following media advisory was published by the Department of Interior on Aug. 23, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON – On Thursday, Aug. 25, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will mark the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service (NPS) by visiting Glacier National Park and Yellowstone National Park – the nation’s first national park – as part of a nationwide tour to commemorate the NPS Centennial.

In the morning, Secretary Jewell will tour Glacier National Park with scientists and stakeholders to see firsthand how climate change is affecting the park’s glaciers and other park resources. Glacier National Park and the Department of the Interior will also host an InstaMeet – where visitors can connect, explore and celebrate creativity with at camera – at Apgar Village at 6:00 p.m. to commemorate the National Park Service's 100th birthday, including a group photo at 7:00 p.m. to mark the historic occasion.

In the evening, Jewell will travel to Gardiner, Montana, to deliver remarks at Yellowstone National Park’s signature Centennial celebration to kick off the second century of the National Park Service. More than 6,000 guests are expected to attend “An Evening at the Arch,” which includes a concert headlined by Grammy award winning singer-songwriters Emmylou Harris and John Prine in front of the Roosevelt Arch. President Theodore Roosevelt, a champion of conservation, laid the cornerstone of the famous arch that stands at the park's North Entrance. The event will also be livestreamed.
