SHANKSVILLE, Pa. – On Sunday, Sept. 11, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will deliver remarks at the Flight 93 National Memorial Visitor Center honoring the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93 on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Secretary Jewell will join U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey, U.S. Representatives Bill Shuster and Keith Rothfus, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Gordon Felt, president of the Families of Flight 93.
At 10:03 a.m. – the moment Flight 93 crashed – the names of the passengers and crew members will be read and Bells of Remembrance will be rung in their memory. Following the ceremony, at 12:30 p.m. the ceremonial gate to the crash site will be opened at the memorial plaza.
On Sept. 24, 2002, the Flight 93 National Memorial Act was enacted into law and created a new national park unit to commemorate the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93 who, on Sept. 11, 2001, courageously gave their lives thwarting a planned attack on our nation’s capital. The memorial is located outside Shanksville, Pa. and also includes a wall of names and memorial groves.
