Secretary Jewell to Visit California Desert to Mark Renewable Energy and Landscape-Level Conservation Milestone - Archive

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of President Obama's Climate Action Plan to create jobs, cut carbon pollution and develop clean domestic energy, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell on Tuesday will visit the Palm Springs area to celebrate an important renewable energy and landscape-level conservation milestone.

Secretary Jewell will be joined by U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), U.S. Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (CA-32), Interior Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management Janice Schneider, California Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird and other senior officials from the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Energy Commission, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and other state and local agencies and local stakeholders.

The Secretary will hold a news media conference at 11:30 a.m. PDT. Media representatives unable to attend the press conference may listen to the news conference via teleconference.

During her visit, Secretary Jewell will tour BLM conservation lands and the AES Wind Energy Operational Facility and will meet with members of the multi-agency Renewable Energy Action Team and stakeholders. Tour segments are open to credentialed members of the press.

Secretary Jewell will underscore the importance of the President's Climate Action Plan, which calls for doubling-down on the production of clean energy on public lands while protecting their natural resources.
