LOS ANGELES, Calif. – On Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will join Coca-Cola North America President Sandy Douglas at Marsh Park in Los Angeles to announce a major public-private partnership with The Coca-Cola Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Coca-Cola Company, to support the Interior Department's ambitious youth initiative to inspire millions of young Americans to play, learn, serve and work in the great outdoors.
Jewell and Douglas will spend the morning with conservation corps members and Coca-Cola associates to participate in a service project planting and removing invasive species along the Los Angeles River bank.
In partnership with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Secretary will also announce the 2014 grant award recipients through the Department's 21st Century Conservation Service Corps (21CSC) Initiative.
The grants will help nonprofit conservation corps at 23 projects in 15 states around the nation employ youth and veterans in projects such as trail maintenance, watershed restoration and historic preservation in partnership with Interior agencies, including one project in Los Angeles.
