DOINews: Veterans Day - Free access to National Parks - Archive

The following press release was published by the Department of Interior on Nov. 11, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

As we mark Veterans Day, I'm pleased to announce that The Department of the Interior is offering free access to our national parks today as a thank you to our nation's soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.

The sacrifices and achievements of the brave women and men of our armed forces must never be understated, nor forgotten. Visitors to public recreation lands managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Reclamation are invited to take a day to honor and reflect on what our service members have done to maintain our freedom and keep peace around the world.

Ken Salazar

U.S. Secretary of the Interior
