WASHINGTON, D.C – On Thursday, April 16, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will deliver remarks highlighting the growing importance of public lands and waters to businesses across the country.
Following her remarks, the Secretary will engage in a question and answer session with U.S. Senator Ron Wyden moderated by Jim Tankersley of The Washington Post. Later, a panel of experts will discuss steps the federal government can take to better account for and encourage growth of the outdoor economy.
America's national parks, national forests, rivers, oceans, and public lands are a powerful engine for growth in the U.S. economy. The Outdoor Industry Association estimates these protected spaces generate $646 billion in consumer spending each year and support 6.1 million jobs across the country.
