Secretary Jewell to Address 50th Annual Alaska Federation of Natives Convention in Fairbanks - Archive

FAIRBANKS, Alaska – On Friday, Oct. 21, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will address the 50th Annual Alaska Federation of Natives Convention in Fairbanks. As part of President Obama's commitment to support Native Americans and Alaska Natives to build strong, prosperous and resilient communities, Secretary Jewell is visiting Alaska to meet with Native leaders on a range of topics, including subsistence fish and wildlife management and opportunities for collaborative management of public lands and resources.

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs Lawrence S. Roberts will also participate in the Conference and join a panel session related to land intro trust.

Through the work of the White House Council on Native American Affairs , chaired by Secretary Jewell, Cabinet agencies are working to improve overall federal interagency coordination and efficiency, promoting tribal-federal partnerships in education, health, energy and economic development and environmental conservation and adaptation.

The Alaska Federation of Natives is the largest statewide Native organization in Alaska. Its membership includes 151 federally-recognized tribes, 134 village corporations, 12 regional corporations and 12 regional nonprofit and tribal consortiums that contract and compact to run federal and state programs.
