KIRKLAND, Wash. – On Saturday, Oct. 22, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and Google Executive Eric Young will make an important announcement related to the Every Kid in a Park initiative and the National Park Foundation’s Open OutDoors for Kids program. The Open OutDoors for Kids program is dedicated to getting young people outdoors and active in America’s national parks. Now in its second year, the Every Kid in a Park program allows fourth graders nationwide to go to www.everykidinapark.gov and obtain a pass for free entry for them and their families to more than 2,000 federally managed lands and waters nationwide for an entire year.
Secretary Jewell will also be joined by U.S. Representative Suzan DelBene and City of Kirkland Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold at a Let’s Move! Outside event and campout on Google’s Kirkland Campus. The event is part of the Interior Department’s leadership of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Outside initiative , which aims to inspire millions of kids to play, learn, serve and work outdoors.
In partnership with the YMCA of Greater Seattle and the REI Outdoor School, 60 children from the Greater Seattle Area will participate in outdoor education activities. Activity station partners include Google, NatureBridge, Pacific Science Center, Woodland Park Zoo, and Interior’s National Park Service and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Afterwards, members of the Tulalip Tribes will lead an evening activity highlighting the culture and history of Coast Salish Indigenous people.
