WASHINGTON, DC – On Monday, June 3, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Deputy Director Rowan Gould will join more than 200 students to kick off National Fishing and Boating Week with recreational and educational activities along the Anacostia River. Bass Pro Shops Founder Johnny Morris and Earth Conservation Corps (ECC) Founder Bob Nixon will be among the participants. Secretary Jewell will offer brief remarks at 10:00 am and participate in fishing and boating activities with the students immediately following.
Sponsored by 13 local and federal government agencies, businesses, and nongovernmental organizations, the event will feature hands-on experiences that teach youth about conservation of fish and aquatic resources, as well as fishing and boating. ECC will also demonstrate its live “osprey-cam” for viewing wildlife.
