WASHINGTON - U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Interior Michael L. Connor will make an important announcement regarding cooperative management of wildlife resources on federal lands during remarks to the 26th Annual Bureau of Indian Affairs Providers Conference in Anchorage, Alaska on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs, Lawrence Roberts will join Deputy Secretary Connor at the Bureau of Indian Affairs Providers Conference.
Under Secretarial Order No. 3342, announced by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell last month at the Alaska Federation of Natives conference, federal land managers are encouraged to involve Native Americans and Alaska Natives in the management of fish and wildlife resources on federal lands that are part of their traditional lands.
The Secretarial Order reflects President Obama’s commitment to work collaboratively with tribal leaders to build stronger, more resilient communities, respect tribal sovereignty, advance self-determination and protect traditional ways of life and cultural and natural resources.
