Secretary Salazar to Mark 10th Anniversary of the National Landscape Conservation System - Archive

On Wednesday, March 24, 2010, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Director of the Bureau of Land Management Bob Abbey will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the National Landscape Conservation System at 3:30 p.m. ceremony in the Yates Auditorium of the Main Interior Building.

The National Landscape Conservation System is composed of national monuments, national conservation areas, wilderness and wilderness study areas, wild and scenic rivers, national scenic and historic trails, and conservation lands of the California Desert. The System was codified with the passage of the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act in March 2009. The BLM manages more land – 253 million acres – than any other federal agency. Most of this acreage is located in 12 Western states, including Alaska.
