PORTLAND, Oregon – On Wednesday, February 5, 2014, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell will join Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) Director Tommy Beaudreau to make an announcement regarding an innovative effort to tap into the vast offshore wind energy resources along the West Coast.
Jewell's Oregon visit comes on the heels of President Obama's State of the Union address where he laid out actions to move the economy toward clean energy sources, reduce carbon pollution and create jobs. Through his Climate Action Plan , President Obama has challenged Interior to spur the development of clean energy by approving 20,000 megawatts on public lands and waters by 2020 – enough to power approximately 6 million American homes.
