The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking public input regarding the upcoming strategic framework proposal for fiscal year 2022-2026.
The Request for Comments (RFC) was made in the hopes that input will help cultivate a more robust national transportation system, a Dec. 6 DOT press release said.
“DOT is asking the public to help shape the department’s goals and priorities as we work to transform the nation’s transportation system making it safer, more accessible, more reliable, and multi-modal, in order to increase economic strength, improve climate and equity outcomes, and build global competitiveness for the American people,” the department said in the release.
The draft framework lists six initiatives that DOT wants to address: safety, economic strength, equity, climate, transformation and organizational excellence, the release said.
“DOT seeks to accomplish the Biden-Harris Administration’s goals by updating our Strategic Framework with the help of our stakeholders, including the American public,” the release said. “This Strategic Framework will help to guide all of DOT’s work, including its implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law over its five-year timeline.”
The release listed five questions the RFC requests public comment on as they review the organization’s goals. They include: what strategies or priorities should DOT adopt to achieve the Department’s strategic goals and objectives?; how should DOT measure progress towards those priorities?; what emerging challenges or opportunities in transportation warrant additional DOT activities or investments?; how can DOT best coordinate its activities with Federal, State, local, Tribal, labor, private sector, academic, non-profit, international and other partners?; and how can DOT best utilize additional programs and authorities in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to accomplish the goals laid out in the strategic plan?
DOT will accept public comments until Dec. 17, the release said. Information on how to submit comments is contained in the Federal Register U.S. DOT Strategic Plan notice of RFC.
