Census Bureau Hosts Virtual Data Summit to Celebrate Open Innovation for All

The Opportunity Project (TOP) Summit: Open Innovation for All is beginning today. Hosted by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Census Open Innovation Labs (COIL), the three-day virtual conference will feature more than 45 new products from industry collaborators including Esri, Google, Amazon Web Services, Morehouse College and others that use federal open data to solve real-world problems. The products were developed during this year’s sprints on the world post-COVID-19

The event will include keynote speeches, lightning talks, discussions on government innovation, open data strategy, and technology for good.

Highlights include:

  • An awards ceremony for the winners of The Open Data for Good Grand Challenge.
  • Hands-on learning sessions for federal, state and local agencies on technology, design and government innovation.
  • Spotlights on work of our government, industry, civic-tech, academic and nongovernmental organization (NGO) partners.
  • Roundtable discussions on topics such as meaningful partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, data equity, diversity of thought, and language inclusion.
TOP is a collaborative effort of government agencies, technology companies, start-ups, students, and NGOs to translate open data into user-centered tools that solve real-world problems for families, communities and businesses nationwide. This year marks the 6th anniversary of TOP.
